Selling with Your Looks
The most important aspect of event sales is your presentation. You could be the best salesperson in the world, but no one is going to buy from you if you look like you just rolled out of bed and dragged a table onto the street corner to start selling. Here are 10 tips on presentation to set you up for success every day.
Start with hygiene: shower, brush your teeth, do your hair, and wear deodorant.
Wash your tablecloth at least once per week.
Avoid setting up in a dirty space, and clear the surrounding area of any trash.
Clearly secure, hang, and present your banners.
Organize your table and any materials on it.
Make sure takeaways/flyers are easily accessible.
Have a chair for customers.
Set up near the entrance of a store or bus stop to look more professional. (Ask permission first!)
Put away your equipment neatly at the end of every day so it stays mint condition and sets you up for success the next day.
First impressions can’t always make a sale, but they can always break them! Start off on a strong foot with every customer by presenting yourself and product well.
If you don’t already, start to think about your event as a portable store.
Every day when you set up your tent, table, and banners you are building your store. Think about what draws you to a store when you are out and put your event together accordingly.
